The Consortium on Mobility and Transportation in Aging Society (Universiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and Universiti Sains Malaysia) in collaboration with URBANICE Malaysia has held a health screening program at the Taman Dagang Hub Community, Ampang Jaya (Krtd Ampang).
A total of about 30 senior citizens aged 55 years and above were present for a health check -up and answered the survey questions. This study aims to identify multimode patents for mobility and transportation as well as factors related to the elderly living in the community.
The majority of senior citizens living in Taman Dagang have been residing here for the past 29 years (1993). Some of them make bicycles and motorcycles the main transportation vehicles for moving. There are also some who have lost their jobs since the Covid-19 outbreak struck. Losing half or all of their livelihood in old age to some extent affects their survival.
It is unimaginable how to be in the place of those who have to move from one place to another when public facilities are not maintained or are inadequate to meet the diverse needs of the elderly.
Hopefully the efforts of this study can to some extent contribute towards the development of the country which can include the needs of the elderly.
